Münchner Hell

Paulaner Brauerei Gruppe

4.9% Alcohol

Our last experience with Paulaner was an alcohol-free brew and let’s put it this way, the rating wasn’t much higher than the ABV. * So this is their opportunity for COMDB redemption. We figured the German brewer has been at it since 1634 so by now I think they should have a handle on a Münchner Hell. The hell you say? Is a translation in order? As part of our Collective Agreement with the COMDB Translation Department I don’t have to engage them in a translation they have done for us before. So I don’t have to go through “hell” and back with them. Helles or “hell” is a traditional German pale lager beer. Time to proceed with the pouring of this pale pint.

And pale it is, golden and clear, my frosty glass masking the clarity. It has nice fresh malt aroma. First thirsty quaff is a nice chill smooth lager malt, with a touch of European graininess, a bit of lager sweet and a smooth hop and bitter free finish.  It also displays a lager sweet aftertaste which is a nice finish to the finish. This is what you want from a German Lager, a classic European quaff that hit the spot. Redemption is Paulaner’s.

*Editor’s Comment: Their alcohol-free wheat beer Paulaner 0.0 scored a 3 out of 20, which our reviewer referred to as a “generous” score.
