In 2023 Carlsberg met their Waterloo but fared much better than Napoleon did, according to two unimpeachable sources, the history books and ABBA song lyrics. * One brand of the pour the boar group that was part of the deal was Laker.
I seem to recall that Laker beer was quite reasonably priced, as in cheap. However my memory can be somewhat sketchy at times so I often fact check myself, a practice that I strongly believe all politicians should follow. I consulted Google AI (Alcohol Intelligence) with the question “is Laker cheap beer” and the COMDB review of Laker Lager came up! It appears COMDB is a verifiable source of information in the world of Google, which certainly puts into question the use of Google as a fact checker.
Cheap is good, but cheap and good is better, and cheap and great is…well great. If all that is true, then an exercise in logic would tell us that expensive and bad is bad, expensive and good is good and expensive and great is…well great. But cheap and great is better than expensive and great, so we find ourselves with varying degrees of greatness, don’t we. Is this a prelude into an essay on the cost of greatness? Nope, just a beer review.
Time to see if this Carlsberg is Carlsbad or Carlsgood. Maybe even Carlsgreat, and that would be great. As opposed to “just great”, an expression which means that something isn’t great, and that’s good to know.
A penny waiting on change copper coloured pour, ** my background Lake Muskoka pic (last light from the bow of my fishing boat) accentuating the red in this Red. The crimson is offset nicely by the bright white head, a pretty penny of a pour for sure. An aroma of mild malt with a touch of caramel, playing some hop-scotch on the nose. First taste is a light malt body, a touch of toffee sweet, with a smooth finish. Very nice. A good solid easy drinking red, nothing special. And in this day of Strawberry Milkshake IPA sundaes and Créme Brew-Lee stouts, it seems like we’re getting our just “desserts”. But nothing special makes it a refreshing alternative to all the wild and wacky brews, which is kind of special. Easy drinking + nicely flavoured = BIG SWIGGABLE! This is a beer that is begging for big swigs, a one and just begun brew. A tasty easy going red; a fridge stocker, a tail gate tallboy, cottage cooler craft.
The math is irrefutable, cheap and great equals great.
