What’s So Funny?

Laughing Paddle

New Ontario Brewery

3.7% Alcohol

Where is our beloved New Ontario bear? A missing bear is no laughing matter. And what’s so funny? Why is this paddle laughing? Is it because I am in a  Cracked Canoe?  Or because I am about to tip my canoe trying to paddle with three kegs of Muskoka Cream Ale in it? Or during a portage did I remind it of Mr. Canoehead? I think I will just Paddle On. I think that is enough internal links to other paddle related brew reviews for today.

New Ontario is suggesting a light mood with some paddle laughs, they tells us to “keep it light on the dock, deck, backyard, back nine, oar wherever the mood takes you.”*  Perhaps this paddle is laughing at that clever pun, in which case it’s laughing with me rather than at me. Whatever it is laughing at is immaterial. The question is not what’s so funny but whether we will be laughing or crying after sampling the suds.

This brew pours clear for takeoff, light golden and bubbly. There is a light touch of fruit with the malt aroma. Flavour is more malt although not much but enough for a light beer. The carbonation is very noticeable, a touch too much, but eventually settles a bit to end up with some carbonation and a slight fruit finish. No hops or bitters allowed in this canoe club. Very easy drinking. How easy drinking you were wondering? Hot day at the BBQ, sacrificing burgers, and this beer went down faster than a sumo wrestler on a see saw.

Refreshing, bubbly and easy drinking, a nice light bubbly brew. We are laughing with it not at it.

*Editor’s Comment: Remember, beer on the pier, water on the water. **

**Editor’s Comment: By the way, this is a catchy and important safety reminder but technically it doesn’t rhyme. A word doesn't rhyme with itself, both are the same word, so it's just repetitive. It only seems like a rhyme because you hear the exact same sound. Although the Poetry Foundation would disagree and provide some literary license to poets by claiming that an “identical rhyme employs the same word, identically in sound and in sense, twice in rhyming positions.” That just seems like lazy poetry to me. A society that allows, no encourages, identical rhyming is demonstrating lax poet work ethic, which is just the start down the slippery slope to moral degradation and a complete lack of family values. What has this world come to when we start accepting prose for poetry. A message to all you aspiring poets out there; take the time, to make it rhyme! ***
