Most people have one light in their fridge. I’ve got 11 different lights in mine. Yes, it’s summertime, stouts and porters are few and far between but there’s a plethora of light beers on the shelves. It looks like the charge of the light beer-gade around here. More lights than the Vegas strip! But before I review this Town Light Hazy IPA, we have time for an awkward segue.
It’s 1987 and I’m running a job in Québec, and they give me what they called a portable computer, a Wang to be precise. So, I’m playing with my Wang, wait a minute, that didn’t sound right, how about this. I’m checking out the software on my portable computer, that’s better, and there’s a brand-new program called Microsoft Project. * And I think to myself, Micro….Soft? Two things men definitely don’t want to have or be. What a terrible name for a company, they aren’t going to be successful, that’s for sure. Apparently, that software company was moderately successful after all, but certainly not because of the name.
Now Town named this beer Micro Dose, something else that nobody wants. **
JT: Beer me.
Me: How about a Micro Dose.
JT: With a penicillin chaser? I’ll pass on that, what else you got?.
Sounds like it’s time for the HR Department to give the Head of Marketing a performance review. Let’s see if their brewmaster can pull this one out of the fire.
A hazy pineapple golden pour with a bright white head, so far so good. Juicy OJ tropical with hoppy pine bitters on the nose. I had to check again to see if this was a light because it sure doesn’t smell like one. First taste is mild citrus pineapple juice with a pine bitters fizzy finish. A little more tropical juice shows up, nice touch. A big swig (or two) renders a little bit of all the forementioned in balance. It’s light and easy drinking and nicely balanced with a bit more flavour than most lights.
Good work Town, now about that name?
