I’ve been to more than 20 gold mines in my day that I can recall and a few I probably can’t. I had a Good Delivery bar of gold in my hands, with two Mounties at my side for moral support. *
When it comes to beer we’ve had Goldbrӓu, Goldie, and Anderson’s Gold. We’ve had Big Rig GOLD, Sultana Gold and Marigold. Brew Dog even punched us a golden ticket. There’s gold in dem there hills! And of course, we’ve followed all the lager laden clues that have lead us to the 7% solution. A little Dab did us, and we had a weakness for Kryptonite 7.0. And in a point one up attempt, Red Bull provided a 7.1% offering.**
Time for another strong lager sampling, Sleeman Gold. As good as gold? Time for a 7% weigh in. Not surprisingly, a golden pour, clear and present. A malty nose, a bock like aroma. First taste was malt to lager sweet with a very mild bitter to a malty sweet aftertaste. A full mouthfeel but not creamy or thick. Full flavoured too. The malt sweet is the main feature and is there consistently from start to the last golden drop. The 7% doesn’t come on strong, it’s a smoothy not a boozy.
As good as gold? At today’s prices I don’t know about that. But all in all a good solid strong lager.
