It’s May 24 weekend, cheers! But it’s more like a “I May have one or two but no more Weekend” for me, being more focused on quality than quantity these days. And it’s a Glenn Frey Sunday. Yes the heat is on, and not just on the street but on the lake too. * Refreshment was an imperative, perhaps even more imperative than usual? Perhaps.
Burdock’s Bears emerges from hibernation,
To become my evening boathouse libation,
I have the Burdock Ducks all in a row,**
It’s time to give the Bears a go. ***

A backyard bear introducing himself to the most spectacular bird feeder in the world.
Yes, we’ve dealt with birdfeeder bears, now it’s time to try one out on the boathouse. Burdock describe this brew as, and I quote “Pinecone-coladas and getting caught in the rain.” I would say that their tasting description is as questionable as their musical tastes. **** It’s time to make it real.
This bear is one clear beer, with a slim and tidy froth of white. A bubble or two, ok maybe a few but who’s counting. It has a tropical juicy almost candy sweet aroma, not many hops on the nose. A slick easy drinking mouthfeel, it is tropical juicy but not as overtly juicy as the aroma. It has a flat dry finish, slight pine bitters and a dry aftertaste. As the juice mellows a bit, backend bitters do the same. Balanced and tasty.
Not at all a bear of a beer, but a refreshing easy drinking West Coast pale. How easy drinking is it, you ask. Let’s just say it’s a more than one big swig beer, and I’m grinning and bearing it.
*Editor’s Comment: The 1984 song “The Heat is On” was a top ten hit written by Harold Faltermeyer and Keith Forsey, recorded by Glenn Frey for the soundtrack of the movie Beverly Hills Cop.
**Editor’s Comment: COMDB have reviewed Burdock’s Ducks, Double Ducks and Triple Ducks.
***Editor’s Comment: Poetic justice in this case would be the removal of our Reviewer’s poetic license.
****Editor’s Comment: The song “Escape”, also known as The Piña Colada Song, is a 1979 soft rock number one hit by Rupert Holmes. The lyrics “If you like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain, If you’re not into yoga, if you have half a brain” are quite possibly as bad as our Reviewer’s rhymes. Rhyming rain with brain makes it an inane refrain.
