As the review name would imply, this is a good one. No dark or any other shade of fore shadowing required here. There’s a howling wolf on the can, but there will be no lupine laden levity or awkwardly assembled alliterations in this review. * No siree. Just a lone wolf, one and done, and done right.
When it comes to wolves we have had no shortage of them at the beer fridge door. Windswept wolves and Wizard Wolves, an Italian wolf and a Wag the wolf, not to mention The Wolf! Farmer Steve even stopped in at Wolfville for a cold one.
True North has simply deemed this wolf “Dark Lager” Sounds like time for a COMDB beer naming party. How about “A Darker Barker”? Sounds like a Price is Right scandal headline you say? ** Ok, maybe a less humble moniker, “Leader of the Six Pack”. A bit awkward? I agree. The Dark Knight, a bit of a medieval anti-hero thing going on there.
This dark is every bit one and then some with a black as can be pour and a touch of tan on top. The aroma is a feisty roast malt sweet, no espresso on the nose to start with. First taste cocoa is there in spades with the full flavour roast and a lingering bitters finish. It has a nice full mouthfeel to it. Settling into a smooth roast malt sweet dark with very slight bitters. Very nice.
I went over to the dark side some time ago and take it from me, this is dark done right.
