Impressive Pig Ale

Haze for Dayz

Thornbury Village Brewery

6% Alcohol

If a cow is a bovine, a horse is equine, and a sheep is ovine, what is a pig? It turns out a pig is porcine, who knew?  Another Jeopardy winner for you.

On to more serious matters. Season opener and my beloved buds are tangling with the hated habs. I will spare you the details, let’s just say that in the last 18 seconds the game took a sudden turn in the wrong direction.

Thornbury Village, nestled in Blue Mountains with Collingwood and Clarksburg. Wait a minute. The Thornbury brewery mascot is none other than Clark the pig! Was the town of Clarksburg named after a pig?*  Nope, apparently this pig was a Fall Fair star attraction, back in the day, long before my day, as in my grandfather’s day. In the immortal words of EB White, “that’s some pig”. This isn’t the first pig we have encountered at COMDB. In addition to Clark is in Session,  we have poured the boar a number of times, and when we were haulin’ premium pil  Margo’s cargo was a cow, a pig and a truck load of dung.**

Nice hazy golden juicy citrus looking pour with a bit of bubble and a nice white frosting on top. An encouraging citrus tropical fruity aroma. Encouraging me to take a big swig which is just what I did. Delicious mild fruit with a slight hoppy bitter finish very easy drinking and refreshing. Some would say crushable, but not me.***  It starts out as a nice balance of mild fruit and hop, not really any bitters. Not juicy. As I get into the brew it gets mild, almost approaching a session IPA in flavour.

An impressive pig, an enjoyable and refreshing light hazy IPA. The Leafs couldn’t bring home the bacon last night but Clark the Pig was on hand (and in hand) to cheer me up as I cheered them on.

*Editor’s Comment: Over one hundred and sixty years ago, William Jabez Marsh founded Clarksburg Ontario. Soon after Marsh arrived, an American settler by the name of William Clark appeared. Clark soon got down to the business of building a mill. In 1860, a meeting was held to settle on a name for this new community. There was a tie vote for the names "Marshville" and "Clarksburg", after the two men who first settled the area. The story goes that Marsh insisted that his friend have the honor of the village being named for him and Clark insisted the main street be "Marsh" street.

**Editor’s Comment: Bullshit I expect.

***Editor’s Comment: You just did.
