On my multiyear Vancouver brew tour I got gassed in Gastown, and had a brew or two by Brewery Creek. Not last or least I quaffed a Yeast Van and had a Stanley Park cup to toast my beleaguered Buds (in a rebuilding decade). I even made a trip to the island, no not that island, I’m talking about Granville. I’ve done some studying and after completing my Beer 101 courses it was time for some higher education. Now I can honestly say I studied at Yale, to some degree. Yes, I just completed my bevy league education at Yaletown.
While on the West Coast ordering a West Coast Pilsner, one of my new fav stylings, somehow seemed appropriate. A light clear tall pour, unfettered by any substantial foam. A light citrus aroma combining with the light fresh malts. First taste is a very mild citrus (almost lemony) start followed by a light malt body and a more traditional pils crisp finish. Not as fruity as some WC pils but I liked the subtleness of the fruit in this one. The whole experience was light and refreshing.
Now along with my “beerologist” designation, my NC Beer 101 courses and my Beer Writer’s Guild of America membership, I’m now a Yale grad. * Yes, I’m an Eli along with Bill and Hillary and George and George, but despite all their grand achievements and successes I’ve done something they’ve never done! ** I’ve had a beer at Yaletown. Boom, mic drop.
